How to Change DNS Records in cPanel

This guide shows you how to add, edit, and delete DNS records in cPanel using Zone Editor. You can manage common records such as A, CNAME, MX, and TXT records.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to your cPanel account.

  • The DNS record details you want to add or change.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel from your Client Area.

2. Open Zone Editor

  1. In cPanel, scroll down to the Domains section.

  2. Click Zone Editor.

3. Select Your Domain

Find the domain you want to manage and click Manage.

4. Add, Edit, or Delete DNS Records

In Zone Editor, you can:

  • Add a record by clicking Add Record.

  • Edit an existing record by clicking Edit.

  • Delete a record by clicking Delete.

When adding a record, enter the required details:

  • Type: Select the record type, such as A, CNAME, MX, or TXT.

  • Name: Enter the domain or subdomain.

  • Record/Value: Enter the required IP address or other value.

  • Click Save Record.

Common DNS Records

  • A record – Points a domain or subdomain to an IP address.

  • CNAME record – Points a domain or subdomain to another domain name.

  • MX record – Specifies which server handles email for your domain.

  • SPF (TXT) record – Specifies which servers are authorized to send email for your domain.

  • TXT record – Commonly used for domain verification and other settings.

Troubleshooting

💡 DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to propagate. If your changes are not visible immediately, allow time for DNS propagation before making further changes.
